Viar Beach Club of Ostuni (Apulia, Italy) is one of the seven seaside centers selected to receive the Bandiera Blu 2010 award  in recognition of their eco-friendly approach, by FEE Italia (Federation for Environmental Education), in collaboration with FIBA and SIB.
The selected centers must not only qualify in terms of their environmental credentials, but also in terms of type of facilities available and presentation.
The criteria for awarding the Bandiera Blu 2010 is based on: management of the environment, environmental education, landscape architecture.
The Viar Beach Club gave to the wonderful city of Ostuni a further  and unique distinction. "We took the initiative some years ago" explained Enzo Romito, the owner of Viar Beach Club. "Our intention was to increase the value of one of the more beautiful seaside of Ostuni and to preserve one of the last wild Mediterranean maquis area. Our goals were protect the nature and – where possible - increase the green area planting typical Mediterranean plants. The award give a prize to our constancy and will to realize a equipped seaside center and continue to attract tourists. We answered to the national and international tour operator that complained about the scarcity of  center whit facilities required by the tourists. Now Ostuni has a further tourist attraction, that will make the ours guests' holiday cozier. I'm personally satisfied of our work, and that award gratifies years of hard work".
The Viar Beach Club, opened just one year ago, has been immediately appreciated by Italians and people of other countries, and the Mediterranean cuisine of its restaurant has been, too.
"An American press delegation has recently visited our club. The journalist loved the center and the landscape. The weather was excellent and they inaugurated the summer season with a crystalline water bath. They confirmed their will to come back not as journalists, but as tourists".
